After a busy weekend, with our daughter's birthday party the day before, I woke up in my own bed as rested as I've ever been before a race and we headed down to the 7:00 am start. I ran off to use the bathroom one last time and then headed to the start. It's fun to race locally because there are a lot of familiar faces and a lot of our friends were racing, but I never did find my husband again before the race started.
On the way back in, I just kept my pace the best I could and then I started doing the math in my head and it occurred to me that I was on pace for 1:45:xx, so I tried to pick it up a bit. Knowing the course helped a ton! When I rounded the corner to the finish line, I saw the clock and knew I need to really kick it in. As I crossed the finish line, the clock said 1:45:01, but my Garmin said 1:44:44.
Thankfully, I did have a few seconds to spare and 1:44:42 was my official time. A PR of about two and a half minutes. I was 5th in my AG and the 17th woman. And I definitely met my goal of running a half marathon under 1:46! I was pretty happy!
It was a great race and a day of PRs! My husband PR'd too, by three minutes! Our good friends ran their first half and did amazing! My brother-in-law came in second in the marathon with a six minute PR just weeks after running an amazing 100 mile race!! And another friend ran a 3:20 marathon qualifying her for Boston.
What a day!
